秋田県に入り道路と田の間の道沿いに

こんな鋼製の柵がいたる所で見られるようになってきた

正式名称は【防雪棚(ぼうせつだな)】

冬季、日本海に近いので猛烈な風で雪が横に流れ

柵の風上や風下の道路を吹雪(視程障害(ホワイトアウト)や道路の吹き溜まりから守るために設置されている

As we enter Akita Prefecture, we've begun to see steel fences like this everywhere along the roads between roads and rice fields. Their official name is ""snow protection shelves."" Due to the area's proximity to the Sea of Japan, strong winds blow snow sideways in the winter. They're installed to protect the roads upwind and downwind of the fences from snowstorms (visibility impairments, or whiteouts) and snowdrifts on the roads.
