滋賀県長浜市西浅井町塩津浜1765にある

道の駅(塩津海道あぢかま館)に寄ったが

朝早かったので店はまだ開いてなかった

あぢかまとは、万葉集で塩津を指すまくら言葉

琵琶湖の水辺で冬を越す鴨に由来

アヂはよくわからない、カマは鴨でしょう

飾ってあった丸木舟が建物の間にあったので見学

丸木舟、琵琶湖の運搬輸送に使われ

昭和初期まで数百隻が琵琶湖に浮んでいた

I stopped by the roadside station (Shiotsu Kaido Ajikamakan) at 1765 Shiotsuhama, Nishiasai-cho, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. It was early in the morning, so the store wasn't open yet. Ajikama is a pillow word for Shiotsu in the Manyoshu. It comes from the ducks that spend the winter on the shores of Lake Biwa. I'm not sure about ""aji,"" but ""kama"" probably means duck.

There was a dugout canoe on display between the buildings, so I decided to take a look. Dugout canoes were used for transporting goods on Lake Biwa. Hundreds of them floated on Lake Biwa until the early Showa period.
