Located at 202 Kinuzeki, Hiraizumi, Hiraizumi-cho, Nishiiwai-gun, Iwate Prefecture, it was founded in 850 by Ennin, a high priest from Mount Hiei.

Its history means there's plenty to see, including the famous Golden Hall.
