The Mekata family was taken in by Motoharu Kikkawa during the Tensho era, and when the Kikkawa family was transferred to Iwakuni, they followed the feudal lord Hiroie and settled in this area.
It is one of the few remaining structures of intermediate-class samurai residences and has been designated as an important cultural property of the country.
